Marina Kolia is a partner and the head of our energy practice. She was admitted to the Athens Bar in 1991 and joined our firm in 2002 after working for over 10 years in major City of London law firms in the energy and projects sector (Herbert Smith, CMS Cameron McKenna, Simmons & Simmons).
Marina focuses on energy, corporate, consumer and commercial law.
She has extensive experience in electricity and gas regulation, restructurings, drafting of codes, licences and processes, negotiating of energy agreements and privatisations. She regularly advises international and domestic clients on Greek and EU energy law, including sale and purchase of energy assets (including negotiating SPAs) and all regulatory and contractual matters related to electricity generation, electricity supply and trading, electricity regulation, contracts and M&A of energy assets. She has also advised numerous international clients on electricity regulation in other countries (e.g. Cyprus, Jordan, California). She has substantial experience in natural gas, advising recently Shah Deniz II Consortium on natural gas regulation in Greece and transit matters and on the preparation of the Vendor’s Legal Due Diligence Report for the privatisation of DEPA and its three natural gas distribution companies.
Marina is consistently recommended as the energy lawyer for Greece by independent publications such as “International Who is Who of Oil and Gas Lawyers”, “PLC Cross Border Energy Handbook”, “Guide to the World’s Leading Energy and Natural Resources Lawyers”.
Marina is also experienced in projects and public works and privatisations, advising several clients on their participation in public tenders and in negotiations of JV and public work agreements. She is also engaged in advising clients on a wide range of corporate and commercial issues, including M&A, consumer and food law, and day to day advice to major multinationals.
Marina is admitted before the Court of Appeals in Greece and as a solicitor to the Supreme Court of England and Wales and works in Greek, English and French.
