Our firm participated in the open public consultation launched by the Greek Parliament for the draft law on the protection of personal data, whose purpose is to introduce measures for the application of the General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) and to transpose into Greek law the Police Directive (Directive EU 2016/680). In particular, Mary Deligianni, member of our data protection & cybersecurity team, expressed her views on this important legislation. Her comments related, among others, to the extraterritorial application of the GDPR, the special rules governing the processing of employees’ data, aspects of criminal liability arising from the violation of the GDPR, the limitations on the data subject’s rights and the processing operations triggering the need for public consultation with the local DPA.
