Alex Karopoulos is a partner of our tax practice and heads our Tax Controversy group. He was admitted to the Athens Bar in 1999 and joined our firm in 2001.
Alex focuses on VAT and other indirect taxes, including insurance premium tax, stamp duty and customs duties. He has extensive experience in advising on the indirect tax treatment of a broad range of cross-border and local transactions carried out by multinational companies in the course of their business. He regularly advises international and domestic clients on the indirect tax aspects of corporate reorganizations, mergers and acquisitions. He supports clients on VAT issues raised in the context of tax audits and VAT refunds and litigates before administrative courts on assessments of VAT and rejections of refund claims by the tax authorities. He advises on issues related to the VAT registration of foreign companies performing taxable transactions in Greece.
Alex advises multinational clients across most industries, including financial and insurance services, real estate, public procurement, energy, IT, aviation, travel, retail and direct sales.
