Alex Karopoulos is a partner of our tax practice and heads our Tax Controversy group. He was admitted to the Athens Bar in 1999 and joined our firm in 2001.
Alex has extensive experience in advising multinational companies on all stages of tax controversy and representing them before the tax authorities in the context of tax audits and all court instances, including the Supreme Administrative Court. He currently litigates some of the biggest tax assessments ever made in Greece and has won multi-million tax disputes concerning income tax and VAT. Alex has also successfully challenged before the courts the legality of taxes leading to their abolishment.
At the same time, Alex specialises in VAT and other indirect taxes (including stamp duty and insurance premium tax) and has extensive experience in advising on the indirect tax treatment of a broad range of cross-border and local transactions carried out by multinational companies. He also regularly advises on the indirect tax aspects of corporate reorganisations, mergers and acquisitions.
