Ensuring adequate maternity protection is an integral component of Greek employment law. Recent legislative changes in Greece have expanded the scope of special maternity leave, extending its duration and allowing its transfer to fathers under specific conditions. However, overlapping legal provisions and inconsistencies in their application have created uncertainty for both employees and employers. The article by Alexandros Lambrou, senior associate of our Employment & Labour practice, which was featured in the Employment Law Bulletin (DEN) on issue no. 1808 / March 2024, explores the current legal framework, clarifies eligibility criteria, and highlights the need for a unified approach to safeguard parental rights effectively.
