Under article 52 of Law 5045/2023, published in the Official Government Gazette last Saturday, July 29th, as of such date, income arising from interest on Greek Government Bonds and T-bills acquired by Greek tax resident legal persons and entities and permanent establishments in Greece of non-Greek tax resident enterprises is exempt from income tax. It is to be noted that income tax exemptions in respect of the relevant income already existed for individuals and non-Greek tax resident legal persons.

The new rules are stated not to apply to credit institutions as defined in EU Regulation 575/2013.

General income tax rules in relation to the taxation of previously untaxed profits when distributed or capitalized are expected to apply.
