On 24.3, Ministerial Decision 23838/2023 (Government Gazette B' 1842/24.03.2023) was issued; according to said Ministerial Decision, the 63 categories of goods necessary for the nutrition and decent living of consumers (sanitary and cleaning products) are specified, such as these products are described in article 58 of Law 4818/2021, regarding the combating of unfair profiteering phenomena. The aforesaid article states that it is prohibited for sellers to have a gross profit from the sale of the above products until 30 June 2023, when the margin per unit exceeds the corresponding gross profit margin that the seller had before 1st September 2021. With regard to the sales of these products, it is expected that there will be increased audits on traders within the next months in order to limit the phenomena of profiteering.

Furthermore, said Ministerial Decision defines the method of determining the maximum allowed gross profit margin for these products, as well as the method of determining the fine imposed in cases of unfair profiteering. Said fine cannot be less than Euro five thousand (5,000) and greater than Euro one million (1,000,000).
