Our firm advised Islalink Holdings, part of the Fiera Infrastructure, with the project for the implementation of the development of the IONIAN cable in Greece. Our corporate team, led by Athina Skolarikou, partner, and assisted by Ioanna Poulakou, senior associate and Gina Dimitropoulou, associate, coordinated the project, undertook the legal and practical aspects of the set-up and organisation of a Greek subsidiary, advised on the overall investment in Greece. Sonia Melegou, partner and Anastasia Veneti-Pagoni, associate advised on the real estate matters associated with the acquisition of the plot for the landing of the cable, and Antonis Giannakodimos, senior associate, performed the compliance of Islalink and the Greek subsidiary with licensing requirements before the National Telecommunications Committee (EETT).
The IONIAN Submarine System will connect Crotone, Italy, with Preveza, Greece and will be complemented with two terrestrial fibre rings extending it to the cities of Milan and Rome, in Italy, and Athens and Thessaloniki, in Greece. The infrastructure will offer wholesale capacity, optical spectrum and dark fibre to telecommunication operators and content providers and will contribute materially to the two major Greek cities becoming regional centers for cloud services, telecoms and content, thus creating additional investment in digital infrastructure.
